CHECKING AND MONITORING SOLUBLE METALWORKING FLUIDS

Equipment

What to do if Concentration is Too High
• Adjust by adding water
• Check method of mixing and concentration of the mixer unit
• Check for excessive tramp oil
• Re-check the concentration with refractometer

What to do if Concentration is Too Low
• Adjust by adding a stronger mix of emulsion
• Check method of mixing and concentration of the mixer unit
• Re-check the concentration with refractometer

If the pH is Too Low
• Adjust by adding a stronger mix of emulsion
• Tankside addition of biocide
• Tankside addition of a high pH additive
• Check for any possible contamination eg. cleaning fluid
• Do a dipslide to check for any micro-organism contamination

If the pH is Too High (very rare)
• Adjust by adding water
• pH should reduce naturally over time
• Check for any possible contamination eg. cleaning fluid

6 Simple steps to manage coolant
1. Control Concentration
2. Remove all Swarf
3. Remove all Tramp oil
4. Manage machine Cleanliness
5. Circulate fluid daily
6. Top up daily
