Tellus S4 VE Hydraulic Fluid

Today’s more compact mobile fluid power systems have smaller hydraulic fluid reservoirs, making them more susceptible to aeration. What’s more, because the fluid volumes are smaller, reservoir residence times can be as short as 30 seconds, leaving little time for air release.

This heightens the risk of air bubbles forming in your equipment’s hydraulic systems, which, in turn, can reduce efficiency and responsiveness while increasing noise levels and boosting the likelihood of pump failure.

Made using advanced gas-to-liquids technology, Shell Tellus S4 VE synthetic hydraulic fluid delivers up to a 6% improvement in productivity compared to regular mineral oil-based fluids[1] while reducing energy losses from hydraulic pumps by up to 21%[2]. Extended oil life

Beyond simply meeting standard industry and equipment manufacturers’ specification requirements, Shell Tellus S4 VE hydraulic fluid exceeds the 10,000 hours maximum duration that can be measured in the industry-standard turbine oil stability test (TOST)3.

Wear protection

Shell Tellus S4 VE offers that extra protection against the increasing demands hydraulic systems present. When put to the Bosch Rexroth test, which Shell found to stress fluids 13 times more than previous industry standards, Shell Tellus S4 VE showed 4 times less wear compared to the test’s limit based on the pump station weight loss. This hydraulic fluid also demonstrates low oil shearing, avoiding faster component wear and increasing costs of ownership.

Sludge control

Shell Tellus S4 VE demonstrated up to 10 times less sludge in extreme heat compared to a competitor⁴ when put to the ASTM D7873 dry TOST. With less sludge formation caused by high-temperature equipment operating conditions, your hydraulic systems can be more efficient and avoid blocked filters.

Wide temperature range

Thanks to its viscosity index of 160 combined with its robust shear stability and excellent low-temperature fluidity, Shell Tellus S4 VE offers protection from cavitation during cold start-ups and durability when operating at high temperatures. This wide operating temperature range means it can help to increase hydraulic efficiency, and it’s an excellent choice all year round.
